Fight Johan Gedry

In the hazy visions of your unconsciousness, you face Johan again and again, fighting a hundred battles with fists and swords and dueling pistols. No matter how hard you fight, how skilled you think you are, Johan is always quicker or better.

At last, these repeating scenes of defeat fade into a warm darkness. You hear the soft splash of water and you realize you are not dead or asleep, but awake with your eyes closed. You slowly open your eyes but it is still dark. A wet weight drapes over your face. You reach up and touch it, taking a moment to realize that you are in a warm bath and a washcloth is draped across your face. You pull it aside and soft candlelight finally reveals a small wood-paneled room.

Ella is sitting on a stool beside the tub, her face flushed from the steamy warmth of the room and her hand reaching into the water. She smiles sympathetically at you.

“Oh, Lucas, I’m so sorry,” she says, leaning closer so that her breasts nearly burst from her corset. “I shoulda known better than to mix you and that gutter thief. All three of them Gedry boys is no good.”

You nod gently in agreement and say, “Not your fault. I had a history with him. You couldn’t have known.”

“Aw, he’s always trouble,” she says. “Punching you got him kicked right out! No joy for him and he ain’t welcome back for a few days.
